The Australian Dental Council (ADC) Exam is designed to assess the skills and knowledge of overseas-trained dentists who want to practise in Australia. If you want to practice in Australia, it is mandatory for you to clear this exam. There are two different assessment pathways—one for general dentists and another for dental specialists.

How the ADC Exam Works for Dentists
  1. Initial Assessment – Before anything else, your qualifications, work experience, and registration history are reviewed to confirm if you’re eligible to sit for the written exam.
  2. Written Examination – This is a two-day, computer-based test with multiple-choice questions that evaluate your theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement based on Australian dental standards.
  3. Practical Examination – Once you pass the written exam, you’ll move on to a two-day hands-on assessment, where you’ll demonstrate your clinical skills in a simulated environment.

The whole process ensures that overseas-trained dentists meet the standards needed to practise safely and confidently in Australia.

To be eligible for the initial assessment, you generally need to:

  • Hold a four-year, full-time dental degree or diploma from a recognised university.
  • Have had full and unrestricted registration or a licence to practise dentistry in your home country or country of training.
  • Be in good standing with your dental regulatory body, meaning no outstanding disciplinary actions or restrictions.

These requirements ensure that candidates have the necessary background to move forward in the ADC exam process.

With our expertly designed advanced curriculum by Dr. Jigyasa Sharma, you can prepare for and clear the exam in 5-6 months—provided you follow our study plan, attend classes, and dedicate 7-8 hours a day to focused preparation. Our structured approach ensures you stay on track and build the confidence needed to succeed.

No, you don’t need to travel to Australia for either the ADC Initial Assessment or the Part 1 Written Exam—both can be completed online.

  • Initial Assessment: This is entirely online. You’ll submit your application and supporting documents through the ADC Connect portal, where your eligibility will be assessed.
  • Part 1 Written Exam: This is also conducted online but must be taken at a Pearson VUE test centre with online proctoring. Pearson VUE has test centres worldwide, so you can choose one that’s convenient for you.
